What do we think about when we think of dying? When we think about our own dying, what do we want most? Death is part of the human experience; all of us have experienced loss, and all of us will die one day. Yet conversations about death and dying are difficult and often avoided even with our closest family members and friends.
This is the focus of “Talking about Dying,” a free conversation with Jennifer Sasser on Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m. This program is hosted by the Newport Public Library and sponsored by Oregon Humanities.
Through the Conversation Project, Oregon Humanities offers free programs that engage community members in thoughtful, challenging conversations about ideas critical to our daily lives and our state's future.
Jennifer (Jenny) Sasser is an educational gerontologist, transdisciplinary scholar, and community activist. She is the author of Aging: Concepts and Controversies and of a newly published book Gerontology: The Basics.
She convenes the Gero-Punk Project (www.geropunkproject.org) and offers consulting and presentations throughout North America. In April 2016, Jenny joined the part-time faculty in the Gerontology program at Portland Community College, where she teaches Adult Development and Aging; Supporting End-of-Life; and End-of-Life Practices.
